SEATTLE, March 6, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- RealSelf, the leading online resource to learn about cosmetic treatments and connect with medical aesthetic doctors, today unveiled plans for the RealSelf House of Modern Beauty, a first-of-its-kind SXSW exhibition house that offers guests the opportunity to explore the world of medical aesthetics through complimentary treatments including facial lasers and injectables, free consultations and a series of educational events throughout the weekend.
"SXSW is a focal point for elevating the ideas that are shaping our culture, which is why RealSelf is launching the first-ever House of Modern Beauty in Austin," said RealSelf chief brand and communications officer Jani Strand. "RealSelf is here to spark conversations about important issues related to aesthetic procedures, like the changing definition of beauty in today's society and the need for better education around choosing a qualified doctor."
The RealSelf House of Modern Beauty will take place on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10, and is open to the public. The two-day showcase will also feature curated programming and panels hosted by top beauty editors, influencers, and industry professionals. Participants include Jane Larkworthy, beauty columnist for The Cut; Jessica Matlin and Jennifer Goldstein, hosts of the Fat Mascara podcast; Lauryn Evarts Bosstick, creator of The Skinny Confidential; Priya Rao, beauty editor at Glossy; Jessica Cruel, deputy beauty director at Refinery29; Crystal Martin, writer for The New York Times; Jill Dunn and Carlene Higgins, hosts of the Breaking Beauty podcast; Monica Corcoran Harel, author and consultant; and Dr. Jennifer Walden, RealSelf expert and board-certified plastic surgeon.
In addition to hosting the House of Modern Beauty, RealSelf Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lara Devgan will represent the company as an official SXSW speaker. Aesthetic Revolution: The Democratization of Beauty is a one-on-one conversation between Devgan of RealSelf and Rosenstein of Harper's Bazaar that will explore how technology, science and popular culture are increasing the demand for innovative solutions and challenging traditional standards of beauty.
"Increased conversation, whether through mainstream media, social sharing, or a conference podium, can lead to greater understanding and acceptance," said Dr. Devgan. "Our definition of beauty is evolving and more people are supporting the idea that it's about one individual and what makes them feel confident at the end of the day."
"Beauty and brains is not a zero-sum game," added Devgan. "You can be a person of substance and also want to look and feel your best, and RealSelf wants to be a champion for that belief."
