Opportunity Hub Announces Partnership with 21 Savage, Others at SXSW

AUSTIN, Texas, March 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Opportunity Hub (OHUB), the nation's leading inclusive ecosystem building platform, announced the appointment of entertainer 21 Savage to its Board of Advisors at this year's third annual HBCU@SXSW, which took place at the South by Southwest Conference and Festival (SXSW). This partnership was among a number of new partnerships and collaborative programs Opportunity Hub announced to create expanded and sustainable multi-generational wealth-creating opportunities for communities that have traditionally been underrepresented and disadvantaged.

"I am excited for 21 Savage to join our advisory board and collaborate on work that we believe will influence a generation to pursue the unlimited and unfathomed opportunities that currently exist in the innovation economy as a path out of poverty and to multi-generational wealth creation," said Rodney Sampson, OHUB Executive Chairman and CEO. "We intend to leverage the platform to build additional partnerships similar to the one we also inked with the Minority Business Development Agency, an organization that has served minority and socially disadvantaged entrepreneurs for nearly 50 years."

With the appointment of 21 Savage to the Board of Advisors, OHUB and 21 Savage will collaborate to provide technology, startup entrepreneurship and wealth building exposure and education to under-tapped communities. Also, as part of the partnership, Sampson and 21 Savage will co-write, produce and collaborate on a tech and startup anthem designed to inspire and create a new generation of future innovators and entrepreneurs. The anthem will be released later this year exclusively in Opportunity Hub's ecosystem wealth app.

The announcement follows the launch of "21 Savage's Bank Account," a campaign in partnership with nonprofit Get Schooled, to teach teens money basics and that provides an opportunity for young people to receive $1,000 from 21 Savage's Leading by Example Foundation to start their own bank account and gain knowledge in financial literacy.

"It's really important for me to show kids that there are other ways to get rich, beyond rapping," 21 Savage said. "I wanna make it cool for kids to get into tech, startups and entrepreneurship - cooler than buying a bunch of jewelry."

OHUB also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) to increase minority representation in the innovation economy. The MBDA and OHUB will partner on an inclusive ecosystem building initiative that will increase entrepreneurship-led economic development. They will work to provide support for networking and strategic partnerships between MBDA stakeholders and OHUB partners, providing an expanded focus to involve Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).

Other announcements included a partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) of Kansas City, the launch of  OHUB CodeStart Bootcamps with CodeFellows and Six Month Startup, and the launch of the Black Ecosystem Network with ecosystem builders in Atlanta, Miami, Philadelphia, New York, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati and Seattle.
